Dancing in the Streets

Dancers take to the streets to entertain the lunch crowd in Uptown Charlotte. This event has been one of the most popular CDF events since the beginning. The dancers will start at Spirit Square at Noon and dance their way down the sidewalks and plazas to end in Wachovia Plaza.

2009 Performers

Capoeira Aprende (both October 8 & 15)
Location: Bank of America Plaza

Academia Aprende was established in 2006 following the aesthetic and teaching style of Patrick Diebel's teacher, Gerrard Taylor, of the Osto Capoeria Club in Norway , who in turn closely follows the example of Mestra Sylva and Marcos Dos Santos of the London School of Capoeira and the great Master of Sombra of Sengale de Santos in Santos , Brazil . The style of Capoeira that we promote is non-contact and non aggressive. As opposed to ‘fighting', we aim to form a dialogue between the ‘players' as a highly skilled and refined aesthetic pursuit.

Singerismo (Charlotte, NC)
Location: Bank of America Plaza

Sinergismo was founded in 2002 by sculptor Jon Rajkovich and dancers Gretchen Jax and Jacqueline McCarthy. The group is comprised of dancers, artists, poets and musicians who use collaboration as a means to produce choreographic spectacles. Sinergismo has performed at venues throughout the southeast including Piccolo Spoleto, North Carolina Dance Theatre, Winthrop University and the Charlotte Dance Festival.

Organic Stir (Both October 8 & 15)
Location: Intersection of Trade St. and Tryon St.

Organic Stir is a brand new contemporary dance company, based around the ideas of youth and innovation directed by Mineko Shanon (a student at UNCC).  The basis of movement is an organic flow with hidden intricacies.  We strive to create work that is both accessible and attractive to the widest audience possible. 

Zeal for Life (Only October 15)
Location: Intersection of Trade St. and Tryon St.

Zeal for Life Dance Company is composed of dancers who share a common bond; that bond is our passion for dance. It is inevitable that people recognize dancers by the way we walk, stand, tap our feet in a chair, hold our posture, or even wear our hair. Dance is within all of us, but after graduating from our studios and college dance teams, we were left with a void created by not being able to perform. To solve this dilemma, we formed a dance company that would eliminate he void of not being active in dance. Zeal for Life is a new and upcoming dance company in Charlotte . We strive to teach others and perform around our community.
