Dancers take to the streets to entertain the lunch crowd in Uptown Charlotte. This event has been one of the most popular CDF events since the beginning. The dancers will start at Spirit Square at Noon and dance their way down the sidewalks and plazas to end in Wachovia Plaza.

2007 Performers

Singerismo
Location: Spirit Square

Sinergismo was founded in 2002 by sculptor Jon Rajkovich and dancers Gretchen Jax and Jacqueline McCarthy.  The group is comprised of dancers, artists, poets, and musicians who use collaboration as a means to produce choreographic spectacles.  Sinergismo has performed at venues throughout the southeast including the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, Sumter Museum of Art, North Carolina Dance Festival Saturday Series, North Carolina Dance Theatre, and the Charlotte Dance Festival.  Sinergismo’s new world premiere The Spirit and the Crane is a live political cartoon in response to the proposed demolition of Spirit Square.  The Spirit and the Crane is the fourth collaboration between choreographer Gretchen Jax and fellow Sinergismian artist Jon Prichard.


Alice Howes
Location: Polk Park

Alice Howes is a Lecturer in dance at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte this year. She is teaching modern dance and improvisation as well as choreographing for the university dance concert. Most recently, she acted as interim director of the dance program at Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland. She was a faculty member in modern dance at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas from 2001 through 2006. In addition, she served from 1995 to 2004 as artistic director and resident choreographer of Washington, D.C.’s Sister’s Trousers Dance Company, a modern dance ensemble that performed regularly in the D.C. area. Her choreography has appeared in selective showcases at venues such as D.C.’s Dance Place, the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, and the National American College Dance Festival at the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater. She holds an M.A. in dance from American University and an M.F.A. in dance from Sam Houston State University.


Lynn Bowman
Location: Wachovia Plaza

Lynn Bowman hails from Bettendorf , Iowa and started her dance training at City Center School of the Arts in Rock Island ; she moved to Washington , DC in September of 2004 and worked at Dance Place .

Lynn graduated from Luther College in Decorah , Iowa with a BA in theater and dance. During her junior year of college, she studied abroad in London at LABAN, receiving a Professional Diploma in Dance Studies.

Lynn danced with Carla & Company and BosmaDance; which was just named as one of Dance Magazines Top 25 to Watch in 2007. Lynn taught dance at the Catholic University of America, with City Dance and at other locations in the DC area. Her most recent dance adventure was to the island of St. Kitts were she taught a week long dance residency in conjunction with DARE dance. This Fall 2007 Lynn will be attending the University of Iowa ; pursuing her MFA in Dance Choreography, she was awarded an Iowa Arts Fellowship and looks forward to continuing her education in dance.
